Where to Find Real Pandan Cake in Melbourne
Real pandan cake — made with the actual leaf, not a bottle of green essence — is harder to find in Melbourne than it should be. If you've been hunting for the proper thing, the kind you remember from home, here's where it lives.
Why real pandan cake is rare here
Two reasons. Most cake shops in Melbourne don't make Southeast Asian cakes at all, and plenty that claim “pandan” reach for artificial essence — neon green, one-note, nothing like the real leaf. So the people who grew up on pandan often end up settling, or going without. We started making these cakes because that gap shouldn't exist in a city like this one.
The whole pandan range, in one place
We don't do a single token pandan cake — we make a proper range of it, fresh, in Melbourne's west:
- Pandan Gula Melaka cake — our signature: pandan sponge, gula melaka cream cheese, toasted coconut.
- Pandan Layer Cake — the Nyonya jelly-layer classic, made fresh weekly.
- Pandan Gula Melaka Durian cake — the signature with real D24 durian, for the brave.
- Pandan kaya swiss rolls, old-school pandan buttercream chiffon, and pandan butter cookies — the supporting cast, all built on the same real pandan.
How to get it
Everything is hand-made to order from our kitchen in Melbourne's west. Most cakes are available next-day for pickup or local delivery; the fresh, jelly-based ones are weekend pickup only and don't post, because they're meant to be eaten at their best, not shipped. Birthday and celebration sizes are there when you need a centrepiece.
Why ours
Real pandan, real gula melaka, less sugar so the flavours actually come through — the same standard behind our mooncakes and our baking classes. If you've been missing the taste of home, start with the signature Pandan Gula Melaka cake and work your way through the rest.
