Why we made the series

These books have been a long-held dream for us. The stories draw on our authors’ own childhood memories, reimagined as fiction. Little Lantern Bakery is the bakery in the stories. We are Amour Desserts, the real kitchen behind them.

We made them for children growing up in Australia with roots in Malaysia and Singapore, so the food on the table, the festivals and the names we call our grandparents feel familiar, and Australia feels like home too. And for any family who wants to share these celebrations with the children in their life.

Each book is made for reading together with ages 4 to 7, and makes a thoughtful gift from parents, grandparents and anyone passing a little culture along.

The people behind the books

Er Rin Tan is the baker and owner of Amour Desserts, where Clara’s stories are set. Daletha Thinagaran is an educator and tells Amour Desserts’ stories to the world. Dinaiz Thinagaran brings the pictures and stories to life.

Little Lantern Bakery may be fictional, but its kitchen smells a lot like ours.
